The Drinking
Now for the pièce de résistance, your cup o’ joe. What do you do with it, besides drinking it that is? Do you go all commando and drink it black like the purist you are? Do you dress it up with milk and sugar? Do you add spices to it or flavored creamers? Does chocolate or caramel or vanilla enter your cup of coffee?

The Brewing

WOW, so many ways to brew coffee. The brewing is what gets the roasted beans into liquid form suitable for filling a cup and imparting that first sip of liquid goodness. Brewing takes equipment and so many kinds. It is truly mind boggling to think of all the types of equipment, so we won’t, at least not here.

The Beans

The core component of any coffee is the coffee bean. DUH! But there are many varieties, grown at different elevations, in different soils and with the addition of cultivated or hybrid methods diversity seems unending. So, what is up with that?

Coffee cherries grow on trees and look like cherries. When they are bright red, sometimes purple depending on the type of coffee tree, they are ripe for the pickin’. The picking can be done with machines at lower elevations going down the rows of coffee trees shaking the coffee cherries loose. At higher elevations with steep slopes the picking is done by hand.
