People Wear Me Out

FJ: What led you to create your company?
PWMO: Like any good wife, I blame my husband!
He saw how hard and how many hours I was working for other apparel companies for only a small 10% commission, and he said: “you are doing all the work, open your own place.” So I did. People Wear Me Out (PWMO). Glad I kicked around for a while beforehand, though, because it took me ten years to find the right fit for a screen printer and embroiderer. And I always told my graphic artist that someday we would be working together as a team. And we are!

Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (MCFRC)

An interview with Lindsay Larson Call, Board Chair

FJ: What lead you to start working with MCFRC?
MCFRC: Shortly after I moved to the mountain communities of Kern County with my husband and toddler, we got some bad news. Enrollment had gone down, and my contract teaching online would be reduced. We were in a new place with no friends or family, but what we kept hearing was, "Go talk to the Family Resource Center."

FJ: What is your background?
Aazam: I hold a Masters in Art Education and certifications in Art and healing (UCLA Integrative Medicine), Therapeutic Imagery, and Neuro-Linguistic Programing (HMI School of Hypnosis).

“Creative process has always been part of my life.” It was what I relied on when dwelling in the dark hole of depression; it pulled me back to safety and seeing the sun shining brighter than ever before.

FJ: What is your work trying to say?
Aazam: My mission is to bring more beauty and joy to this world and those around me. That is precisely the reason I paint/create—this is my way to feed my soul, be happier, and engage in things that are more fulfilling in life.

I learned the hard way; that is why I am doing what I do, trying to empower other women to listen to their hearts.

FJ: When did you decide on becoming an entrepreneur
Connie: Over the years, my pizazz for fashion was expressed through the numerous dresses and handbags that I designed for myself. This self expression soon attracted the diverse interests of teenage girls, hip chicks, trendy moms as well as exotic cabaret performers.

FJ: How did that decision come about
Connie: Affected by the 2007 economic crisis, I decided on becoming an entrepreneur. I followed my passion and started a business in something I really loved to do. Coupled with the strong support and interests in my designs from friends, family and acquaintances... IsidoraDesigns.com was born.

FJ: What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
Faith: Since I was a little girl, I’ve always planned on being my own boss. Though I didn’t know the term “entrepreneur” at 4 years old, I knew the meaning and I knew that my passions in entertainment, fighting and writing were my paths.

FJ: What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
Faith: I highly believe that everything happens for a reason. My parents put me in Tae Kwon Do, acting class and dance class when I was little. I’ve loved them ever since and I just knew that this was for me. It was an easy decision. This or college? Definitely this. Though it does take a lot of hard work, I’m willing to work my hardest to get where I want to be.
