Sally Van Swearingen – Author of It’s Not Over Yet!

FJ: When did you decide to become a writer?

Sally: As far as writing my book? I had written many skincare and makeup articles for magazines and other publications but didn’t decide to write “It’s Not Over Yet!” until I went to a Rockstar marketing class, where we were all encouraged to write our story. It was supposed to be only 100 pages I went overboard, Mine is 260 pages, color, and it made it to Barnes and Noble!

FJ: What brought you to write this book?

Sally: As I share at the beginning of my book, I had a baby at 42 and felt that I had lost my “Beauty Power.” I eventually rediscovered it in a new, authentic way, and I wanted to share my process with ladies who experienced the same thing but didn’t know where to begin.

About the book –It’s Not Over Yet!

FJ: What interesting facts did you learn when writing your book?

Sally: That writing and publishing a book is a very long process that takes focus and perseverance. I was also pleasantly surprised by how many women loved the book and thanked me for writing it.

FJ: What are you trying to achieve with it?

Sally: There are many women out there that are still searching for answers, many women who feel that much of the enjoyment of life for them is over after 45 or 50. They think that they are invisible, but some of the reason for that is they have allowed and accepted it, and don’t know what to do to get out of that mindset. I want to reach those women!

FJ: What got left out in the final draft?

Sally: My being more real and telling more of my personal story and how I got where I am today.

FJ: Where do your ideas come?

Sally: My experiences with my ladies ‘on set’ and in real life. Because I am high energy, it may not seem like I listen, but I do. I love to watch people, and I am especially in tune with body language. When I’m quiet, listen and watch, there is so much to see and learn.

Sally Van Swearingen - AuthorFJ: What's next for you? What are you working on now?

Sally: We are beginning to draft out a video series that focuses on beauty, specifically age appropriate but still stunning looks for ladies 40 plus and 50 plus. I feel that ladies can become very stumped on what to do with their makeup and hair at this time. I can help!

FJ: Do you have any advice for new authors on marketing their books?

Sally: Work on branding yourself as an expert in your field. Get speaking gigs and be interviewed on the radio. Say yes! to projects like this one, thank you for asking me 🙂

FJ: How do you get book reviews?

Sally:  I’m still working on this one. If someone reaches out and tells me how much they loved my book, I’ll ask if they will write a review.

FJ: Which authors inspire you?

Sally: I Love to read inspirational books. Currently reading for the second time  “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg, and “it worked for me” by Colin Powell. My all-time favorite book is “Farewell the Stranger” by Sallie O’Brien.
